Farmers in the rural areas of Gabon have benefited from an initiative by PACJA to reduce emission from degraded and damaged forests.
The initiative, REDD+, funded by the World Bank through PACJA, seeks to empower and help farmers to increase production through sustainable mechanisms.
The Gabon PACJA team from the secretariat visited the farmers, under the umbrella IDRC Africa, that is a beneficiary organisation of the REDD+ project being implemented in Gabon.
The country imports food from neighboring countries despite the fact that there is a lot of arable land at the disposal of farmers. The government has embarked on land use planning and a lot of land has been earmarked for allocation to farmers to support large scale production. Food security is a critical component in resilience building for communities.
